10-13-2007 Race Report
Posted October 15, 2007 at 8:56PM
Epping, NH – The final tune-up before Nationals weekend hit the All-Star
Speedway on Saturday night, with the 75-lap Cheaters Invitational for
Super Streets/Sportsmen the headline event for the night.
Several teams took advantage of the limited rules in place for the
Invitational and made some aero changes to their cars for the race. Big
spoilers and even a few roof wings were spotted throughout the pit area
pre-race, as teams were pulling out all the stops looking for a big
payday in the first annual Cheaters Invitational.
2007 All-Star Speedway Super Street champion Ron Bolduc and “Gentleman
George” Baldwin took down the heat wins, but an invert of the top six
for the feature put veteran Mitch Wendell and Tony Kawejsza in a winged
Jim Daley entry on the front row for the main event.
Wendell moved out to grab the early lead, setting the pace for the first
eight laps before losing out to Baldwin, who charged quickly from the
third row to the lead. Bolduc quickly picked up Baldwin’s trail, and
when the leader encountered a lapped car and hesitated for just an
instant, Bolduc dove to the inside and took over the lead.
Lap 15 brought trouble for polesitter Wendell, who cut a tire and spun
in turn one, and that set up the restart that brought the “big one”.
Baldwin got sideways coming to the green, and several cars piled up in a
major wreck that scattered cars all over the frontstretch.
Baldwin backed into the wall hard, but his car sustained only minor
damage and he continued on, as did Chuck Dehney after a trip to the pits
and some major repairs by his crew. Scott Bonney, Jr., sitting in for
his injured father Scott for the night, was done for the night, joining
teammate Sandy Lee with a DNF.
Bolduc picked up the lead once again after the wreck was cleared, but
all eyes were on Baldwin, as he charged through the field to once again
contend for the win in the waning laps. Invader Aaron Fellows took up
the lead battle with Bolduc after the crash, but he dropped out near the
50-lap mark.
Baldwin made it close in the final few laps, but Bolduc held on the rest
of the way, lapping almost the entire field on his way to victory.
Baldwin had to settle for the runner-up slot, with Kawejsza, Lee Weldy,
Dehney, Steve Johnson, John Bourdelais, Pete Jarek, “The Travelin’ Man”
Pete Fiandaca and Eric Hatch next across the stripe.
Chris Lee grabbed the early lead in the Strictly Stock feature event,
but this one was all Steve Douphinette. Coming from eighth place on the
starting grid, Douphinette quickly got to the front, and when he did, he
was there to stay.
John Swain put in his best run of the year, but came up short of
Douphinette in the runner-up slot, with Stephen Dubois, George Baldwin,
Scott Duval, Mike Asselin, Lee, Wayne Silvia, Russ Wallace and Ken
McIlvaine next in the finishing order.
Tim Johnson made a guest appearance in the Roadrunner main, and he
quickly made a move on early leader Ken McIlvaine to take over the top
spot. Johnson was on the move, still leading the field at the crossed
flags, but 2007 champ Billy Osborne was moving in.
A lap later, Osborne made his move to the front, and from there, it was
all over. Osborne cruised on to the checkers to score the win, with
Johnson getting his best ever All-Star finish in the second spot.
McIlvaine held on for third, with Kurt Smith taking fourth with his
brother Loren wrapping up the top five.
Bob Williams conquered the field in the spectator one-on-one drags;
while it was Huey Doucette taking down the Truck Enduro win over Chad
Bennett, Rick Sirois, Andy Nichols and Russ Anderson.
Nick Maniatis got the job done in the 4-cylinder Enduro, running down
early leader Jim Deveau to take the lead for good on lap 21. Deveau held
on to collect second place honors, with Timmy Johnson, Jeff James and
Tyler Maillhot rounding out the top five.
The 8-cylinder Enduro closed out the night’s action, and it turned out
to be a big night for Jean Desilets, who scored his first career victory
after over a decade of trying. Jeff Wheeler checkered second, with Eddie
Murphy, Mark Nevers and Bobby Ballantine the rest of the top five.
All-Star Speedway
10-6-2007 Race Report
Posted October 11, 2007 at 3:56PM
Epping, NH – Another exceptional program of racing action was on tap for
fans at the All-Star Speedway on Saturday night, but rain came just
before the highly anticipated 150-lap main event for the PASS North
Super Late Models took to the high banks.
Despite a superb effort by everybody involved in getting the track dried
and back in racing condition, another round of showers came through as
the PASS stars prepared to start the race, which caused the postponement
of the event.
Earlier in the evening, several of the support divisions managed to put
their features into the record books, with 2007 points runner-up Rick
Woodside, Jr. taking down the win in the Strictly Stocks over a
hard-charging Jim Russell and Ken McIlvaine.
In the Roadrunner main, Aaron Day broke out to the early lead, but 2007
champion Billy Osborne once again charged to the front to take the
checkers and the win. Runner-up Shaun Waites and veteran Loren Smith
shared the post-race podium with Osborne.
The PASS Modifieds put on an entertaining show in their 40-lap feature
event, with Gary Norris taking command early in the event. Chris Smith
moved into the second spot by halfway, and he was all over leader Norris
looking for a way by.
Norris was up to the challenge, and he held off Smith at the checkers to
pick up the win. Third spot went to Tom Oliver, with Mark Lucas and
Chris Staples rounding out the top five.
The PASS Sportsmen were up next, with a pair of All-Star Speedway
regulars, Tony Carroll and Ron Bolduc, the lone hometown drivers in the
field. Despite an early-race spin, Mike Landry showed himself to be the
class of the field in this one, taking down a convincing win.
There was plenty of action throughout the 75-lap affair, with
side-by-side racing all through the field. Nate Weston was the best of
the rest to finish in the runner-up slot, with Dan McKeage, Jerry
Harrison, Bolduc and Carroll next across the stripe.
The All-Star Modifieds had a special 75-lap event on the slate, and in
the early going, it looked like veteran Rusty Ball was going to be
tough. He jumped out to the early lead, keeping multi-time feature
winner Bruce Batchelder behind him for the first ten laps.
By then, Jon McKennedy was already up to third and looking for more.
McKennedy, a former 350 Super champion on the quarter-mile, was quickly
past Batchelder to take over second, and Ball fell soon after, as
McKennedy was a man on a mission.
A few raindrops were falling as McKennedy took the checkers for his
third All-Star Modified win of the 2007 season, with Batchelder beating
out Ball for third. The rains fell even harder after the checkers, but
after it stopped and a quick track drying took place, the PASS Super
Late Models finally hit the high banks.
The field circled the track under caution trying to dry the last part of
the track surface, but unfortunately, just as they were preparing the
field to go green for the feature event, the rain returned and washed
out the remainder of the program.
There’s plenty of action still yet to come at All-Star, as the fall
season specials continue on Saturday, Oct. 13 with the running of the
Cheaters Invitational for Super Streets/Sportsmen, along with a full
program of Enduro action.

9-29-2007 Race Report
Posted October 2, 2007 at 7:56PM
Epping, NH – Double features
were the order of business for all five weekly divisions at All-Star
Speedway on Saturday, with the 2007 championships on the line for the
NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Models, All-Star Modifieds,
Super Streets, Strictly Stocks and Roadrunners.
After a full round of qualifying heats, the Roadrunners were first up
for feature event action, and it was Shaun Waites opening up the night
in victory lane. Billy Osborne took down second place honors, with Steve
Nichols, Scott Bonney, Jr. ad Aaron Day, fresh of a feature win the week
before, rounding out the top five.
In the second feature for the Roadrunners, Chris Kingsley and Bonney
both spent some time out front, but 2007 champ Billy Osborne was the man
of the hour, outrunning the field to post the win and lock down the
title. Waites, Bonney, Kingsley and Nichols were the remainder of the
top five.
“Rocket Rob” MacRae had a night to remember in Strictly Stock
competition, putting on an impressive show on his way to wins in both
ends of the championship night doubleheader. The victories pushed his
win total to six for the year, and brought MacRae to the 2007
championship as well.
In feature number one, it was Rick Woodside, Jr. taking runner-up honors
over Dennis Dumas, Matt Kawejsza, and Joe Edwards. Woodside duplicated
his runner-up effort in the second feature as well, but he came up just
short in the championship battle. Steve Douphinette, Matt Kawejsza, and
Mike Asselin finished up the top five.
Ron Bolduc stormed to victory and back into the points lead with a win
in the first Super Street main, but his attempt at a third track
championship looked like it might be in trouble. Shortly after the first
feature, Bolduc was forced to withdraw his car due to mechanical issues.
He climbed into the Bill Shea entry usually piloted by Shea’s daughter
Rosebud for the second feature, and with the championship his to win or
lose, he managed to hang in there and pull off a top ten finish to seal
the title over Tony Kawejsza.
John Bourdelais garnered second place honors in the first go-round, with
Kawejsza, Tony Carroll, and J.R. Baril the rest of the top five. Baril
gave up his seat to Bolduc for the second race, which saw Lee Weldy
capture runner-up honors, followed by Carroll, Kawejsza, and Bourdelais.
Bruce Batchelder and Jon McKennedy won the battles in the All-Star
Modifieds, but it was Henry Stampfl who won the war. After a hot start
that included a couple of feature wins, Stampfl built a points lead that
he never relinquished on the way to the 2007 championship.
Multi-time winner Joe Lemay and fan favorite Brandee Tree joined
Batchelder on the podium after the first feature event, with veteran
Rusty Ball and Todd Patnode the rest of the top five. Lemay repeated as
runner-up in the second feature, with Brett Gonyaw, Ball, and Kenny
White, Jr. next across the stripe.
It was a two-man battle coming into the night in the NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series Super Late Models, with multi-time champion Bobby
Gahan holding a slim lead over Eric Hudson in the title fight. Jimmy
Renfrew took the win over Wayne Helliwell, Sr. in the first of the two
feature events, with Gahan’s third place running keeping him atop the
points.
In the season finale, Hudson got to the front early to take over the
lead, but he needed Gahan to finish fourth or worse to have a shot at
the championship. Hudson did all that he could, taking down another win
in the Newmarket Sand and Gravel ride, but he came up just short in his
bid for the championship.
Gahan improved his finish from the first race by a position to finish
runner-up, picking up the first-ever All-Star Speedway NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series Super Late Model championship as a result. Barry
Gray took third place honors, with Jeff Crowley and Renfrew closing out
the top five.

9-22-2007 Race Report

Epping, NH – With double
features on tap for the All-Star Speedway Modifieds and Super Streets,
there was a full night of racing on the agenda on Saturday. Another
strong field of cars filled the pit area, and the action on the high
banks was intense from start to finish.
The Super Streets opened up the NASCAR Whelen All American Series weekly
action with their feature event that was held over from two weeks prior,
and it was Paul Ranberg out to grab the early lead in the Mike White
entry.
John Bourdelais challenged for the lead in the early laps, but a flat
tire sent him to the pits on lap eight, ending his shot at victory. Lee
Weldy moved up next to challenge Ranberg for the top spot, and he ran
the high line to perfection to take over the lead.
Ron Bolduc followed Weldy to the front and he quickly moved to the
outside to take a shot at the lead. Bolduc came up short and eventually
dropped back a few spots, and it was Weldy’s teammate Sandy Lee moving
in next.
Lee Made the high line work on a late-race restart, flying past Weldy to
the lead. At the checkers, it was Lee in for the win, with Team Daley
stablemates Tony Kawejsza and Weldy sharing the post-race podium in
second and third. Chuck Dehney was next across the stripe, with rookie
Steve Johnson rounding out the top five.
The All-Star Modifieds were next to roll out of the pit area, with
Brandee Tree and Rusty Ball bringing the field around to take the green
from flagman Mike Walker. Ball slipped past Tree on the second lap to
take over the lead, but Brandee hung tough in the second spot for the
first thirteen laps before losing the position to Bruce Batchelder.
Batchelder quickly set his sights on Ball, and he not only caught the
early leader, he got past to go on to victory. Kenny White, Jr. came on
strong in the late laps to checker second, with Ball, Henry Stampfl, and
Bobby MacArthur the remainder of the top five.
The regularly scheduled features opened up with the Roadrunner main,
which featured an impressive flag-to-flag run by Aaron Day that netted
him his first win of the year. Day put a couple of car lengths between
himself and the rest of the field at the start, and he was pretty much
unchallenged on the way to his first victory of the 2007 season.
A fierce battle developed behind Day for the second spot, with Scott
Bonney, Jr. eventually prevailing over veteran driver Loren Smith to
take runner-up honors. Smith came across the finish line in third, with
points leader Billy Osborne and Steve Nichols rounding out the top five.
The rough and tumble Strictly Stock feature was next out on the high
banks, and before the night was through, several cars went home with
serious damage. Mike Asselin led early before Dennis Dumas took over,
but when the dust settled, it was Jim Russell taking down his first win
of the year.
Rick Woodside, Jr. and Matt Kawejsza were in the middle of a big
backstretch wreck that heavily damaged their cars and the
disqualification bug bit several of the division’s top names, dropping
them to the back of the 20-car field. Stephen Dubois wound up taking
second, with John Swain, Mike Asselin and Chuck Dehney next in the final
rundown.
Jimmy Chambers and Jimmy Renfrew set the pace when the NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series Super Late Model feature event went green, but with
a pair of quick caution flags for tangles at the front of the pack,
Bobby Gahan moved quickly from his fifth place start to the lead.
Immediately under pressure from four-time feature winner Eric Hudson in
the Newmarket Sand and Gravel entry, Gahan led the way well past the
halfway mark, with Hudson, rookie Matt Frahm and Russ Hersey running
bumper to bumper right behind.
Hudson tried to get past on the outside for several laps, and after
dropping back in line for a few quick trips around the quarter-mile, he
once again took to the outside on lap 29, passing Gahan for the lead.
Hudson went on to score win number five, with Gahan, Russ Hersey, Matt
Frahm, and George Baldwin second through fifth.
Twenty Super Streets were ready for action in the regularly scheduled
feature, but nobody was as ready as John Bourdelais. Bourdelais quickly
made his way past Paul Ranberg to grab the top spot, and despite several
challenges along the way, he went on to collect his first win of the
2007 season.
Tony Kawejsza came from six rows deep on the starting grid to contend in
the late laps, but he had to settle for a solid runner-up finish, with
Chuck Dehney, Ron Bolduc, and Sandy Lee finishing up the top five.
The All-Star Modifieds thundered out of the pit area seventeen strong
for the final feature of the night, and polesitter Rusty Ball quickly
established himself as the man to beat. Rookie Brett “The Jet” Gonyaw
was quickly up to second, and he had his eyes on the lead.
With five to go, Ball was still out front, but that’s when Gonyaw made
his move. Gonyaw looked low on the backstretch, and dove to the inside
of Ball heading into turn three. In just he second time in a Modified,
Gonyaw went on to join the All-Star winner’s list.
Ball checkered second, with Eric LeClair grabbing his best finish of the
season in the third spot. Veteran Carl Pasteryak came home in the fourth
spot, followed by Todd Patnode, Kenny White, Jr., Henry Sirignano, Jr.,
Bobby MacArthur, Josh Cantara, and Zach Jewitt.

9-8-2007 Race Report

11, 2007 at 9:21PM
Epping, NH – Despite Mother Nature’s best efforts to put a damper on the
first annual running of the All-Star Speedway ISMA Supermodified
Classic, track crews overcame the elements to get the track in race
shape, and the show went on.
With an All-Star field featuring the biggest names in the Supermodified
business thundering off turn four to take the green flag from Don
Horvath, Bobby Magner nosed his machine to the lead, and he set the pace
deep into the first half of the race.
With the new format in place for the 2007 running of the Classic, there
would be a pair of 75-lap segments run, with a break for fuel, tires and
adjustments before the second half of the race. While Magner was setting
the pace for the first 50 laps, a couple of other drivers were marching
toward the front.
Chris Perley and Justin Belfiore, both former champions on the
quarter-mile when Supers were featured weekly, were on the move and
headed to the front. All eyes were on Perley, since he’s dominated the
action on the ISMA tour all season, but his night ended in the wall on
lap 53.
Belfiore went to work on the ensuing restart, and four laps later, he
made what turned out to be the winning pass on early leader Magner.
Belfiore led the way when the first 75-lap segment ended, and he was
still out front when the final checkered waved, giving him a
long-anticipated Classic win.
Other than runner-up Jeff Holbrook, the rest of the top finishers were
drivers with roots at All-Star. Third place finisher Russ Wood is a
former track champion and five-time Classic winner, fourth and fifth
place finishers Joe Petro and Jamie Timmons both got their starts on the
Epping high-banks.
The Mighty Midgets of NEMA visited All-Star for the second time this
season as part of the open-wheel extravaganza, and once again they wowed
the crowd with plenty of wheel-to-wheel action. The NEMA group came to
All-Star with heavy hearts, having lost one of their staunchest
supporters, Marilyn Angelillo, to cancer just days before the race.
Veteran Joey Payne had one thing in mind when he climbed aboard the
Angelillo’s husband Gene’s machine for the feature event, and that was
to win one for Marilyn. Unfortunately, three-time champion Ben Seitz
stood between Payne and victory.
The two battled side-by-side for several laps, with Seitz eventually
edging ahead to take down the win. Payne circled the track carrying the
checkers in tribute to the Angelillo’s memory. It was an emotional scene
in victory lane, as the Angelillo team joined Seitz in victory lane.
Due to the nightlong battle against the weather, the thunder of the
All-Star Modifieds was postponed due to time constraints, as was the
main event for the Super Streets. But the Strictly Stocks, Roadrunner
and Super Late Models all put their feature events in the record books.
Eric “Helmet” Hudson ran off to an impressive win in the Super Late
Model main, taking the Newmarket Sand and Gravel entry to victory lane
once again. Hudson was greeted by a special trophy presentation from
Jeanne Webber in the post-race ceremony.
Wayne Helliwell took down runner-up honors in the Super Late Model main,
with points leader Bobby Gahan next across the stripe. J.R. Baril capped
off an impressive weekend with a fourth place run in the Super Lates,
followed by Wayne Helliwell, Jr. finishing up the top five.
In the Roadrunner main, it was Bill Chambers out to the lead for the
first nine laps, with a pack of cars right on his back bumper. The
veteran campaigner lost the top spot at halfway, and faded from
contention late in the race. Up front meanwhile, Cory Sullivan and Billy
Osborne locked in a tight battle for the lead.
Osborne held the advantage most of the way, with Sullivan following in
his tire tracks looking for a way by. Finally, he found a hole and
slipped past the division’s leading feature winner to take over the
lead. At the checkers, it was Sullivan in for his first win of the year,
with Osborne, Scott Bonney, Jr., Steve Nichols and Shaun Waites the rest
of the top five.
Ken McIlvaine charged to the front when the Strictly Stock feature went
green, moving out to put several cars lengths between him and the
competition in the early laps. Dennis Dumas had his hands full hanging
on to the second spot, which he finally lost to Russ and Steve
Douphinette on lap 14.
A couple of tangles and restarts helped Rick Woodside find his way to
the lead on lap 15, and once he moved to the front, he was there to
stay. At the finish, it was Woodside’s night to take center stage in the
winner’s circle, with Chuck Dehney, Dumas, Stephen Dubois and McIlvaine
finishing up the top five.

Race Report for 9-1-2007 Posted
September 3, 2007 at 1:41PM
Epping, NH – The chase for the 2007 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
championships continued at All-Star Speedway on Saturday night, and it
was J.R. Baril once again coming out on top of the Super Late Model
feature event.
Baril reeled in early leader Wayne Helliwell, Jr., just before halfway,
and the two locked in a tough battle for the next several laps before
Baril finally came away with the lead. Once out front, J.R. wasn’t
challenged the rest of the way, and went on to score his fourth win of
the year.
Helliwell was the best of the rest to finish in the runner-up slot,
followed by Eric Hudson in the Newmarket Sand and Gravel machine in
third. Jimmy Renfrew took fourth, followed by Bobby Gahan, Jimmy
Chambers, Matt Frahm, Daryl Stampfl, Wayne Helliwell, Sr. and Jeff
Crowley.
The All-Star Modifieds thundered onto the high banks with Dan Douville
leading the way, and he was still out front when the first caution waved
on lap six for a tangle involving Sumner Scott and Kenny White, Jr.
Points leader Henry Stampfl and Rusty Ball were challenging Douville on
the restart, but Joe Lemay was getting ready to make his move. Lemay
restarted sixth, but he quickly picked his way through the field to
challenge Douville for the lead.
Douville did what he could, but there was no stopping Lemay on his
charge to win number three for the season. Stampfl was next across the
stripe with a solid runner-up effort, followed by Douville, Karl
Fredrickson, and White.
Another action-packed Super Street main saw veteran Scott Bonney run out
to take the lead in the early going, with Chris Sullivan holding down
the second spot. They stayed out front through a couple of early-race
cautions, with the field going yellow for a third time on lap 11.
Chuck Dehney lined up on the inside of the second row for the restart,
and he quickly put away Sullivan to take over second spot when they went
back to green. Bonney yielded the lead just after taking the crossed
flags, and the race was all Dehney’s from there.
Ron Bolduc once again came up just short at the checkers, the third
straight time he’s pulled runner-up duty for the post-race trophy
presentation. Tony Kawejsza checkered third, followed by Sandy Lee, Lee
Weldy, Bonney, Sullivan, Steve Johnson, Bill Ahern and Kevin Kephart.
Mike Asselin set the pace when flagman Mike Walker unfurled the green
flag for the Strictly Stocks, but caution was on the field just a lap
later when Chris Waites and Rob Wilcox found trouble on the frontstretch
and sent the field scattering.
Rick Woodside, Jr. moved past Asselin to grab the lead after the
restart, with Russ and Steve Douphinette joining the lead battle by the
halfway mark. Woodside was running a determined race, and Russ couldn’t
make a move in the closing laps.
Woodside went on to lead the field across the stripe and collect his
first win of the 2007 campaign, with Russ Douphinette taking second with
nephew Steve just behind in third. Fourth spot went to Rob MacRae, with
Matt Kawejsza finishing up the top five.
In Roadrunner action, it was Scott Bonney, Jr. out to the early lead,
with Loren Smith quickly moving in to challenge. The pair circled the
high banks nose-to-tail for the next several laps, with Smith looking
low several times unsuccessfully.
Bonney continued to lead at halfway, with multi-time winner Shaun Waites
moving in to join the lead battle. With the laps running out, Waites was
working the outside trying to pass Bonney, with Smith right in there
trying to get past both of them.
With the checkers in the air, Bonney hung tough and picked up the win by
inches, with Waites, Smith, Cory Sullivan and Aaron Day the remainder of
the top five.

Epping, NH – With
just over a month left in the chase for the 2007 NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series championships, the action was intense all night long
at All-Star Speedway on Saturday.
The V-6 Modifieds opened up the feature event portion of the program,
with Eric Vilandre breaking out to the lead ahead of Dick Dubois at the
start. Wayne Brooks, Jr. joined the lead battle quickly, but he got
tangled up with Dubois and went spinning off the backstretch on lap
three, done for the night.
Allan Rieser lined up next to Vilandre for the restart, but he didn’t
stay there long, moving past immediately to take over the lead. J.R.
Gorman followed Rieser to the front, and by halfway, Dubois had
re-joined the lead battle in the third spot.
The lead trio ran tight the rest of the way, but Rieser was up to the
task and held them off to pick up the win. Gorman grabbed runner-up
honors, followed by Dubois, Vilandre and Justin Swingle.
Aaron Day and Pat D’Alba brought the Roadrunners around to the green,
and D’Alba made his way past the polesitter to take over the lead. The
enduro veteran led the first half of the race easily, but on lap 12, he
slipped high and Loren Smith got underneath for the lead.
Billy Osborne was next to take turn out front, and when he got by Smith
to take over, it was the last lead change of the race. He led them under
the checkers to add another win to his division-leading season total,
with Shaun Waites, D’Alba, Kurt Smith and Ray Patriacca next across the
stripe.
Mike Asselin and Chris Waites set the pace for the Strictly Stock main,
but third-place starter Stephen Dubois quickly made his way past them
both to take command of the event. While the big guns were working their
way up through the pack, Dubois held off Ken McIlvaine and Matt Kawejsza
to maintain the lead at the crossed flags.
With no cautions to help, Russ Douphinette ran down the leaders, but
time was running out quickly. He got to second at the white flag, and
made a hard charge to the inside of Dubois coming off turn four to the
checkers, but Dubois held on to pick up his first career win.
Douphinette, Rob MacRae, Steve Douphinette and McIlvaine were the rest
of the top five.
Freshman Kevin Kephart jumped out to the lead at the start of the Super
Street main, with heavy pressure immediately coming his way from both
John Bourdelais and Lee Weldy. After an impressive caution-free run from
the Strictly Stocks, the Super Streets gave it their best shot, passing
halfway in their 30-lapper without a yellow.
Kephart continued to show the way when they reached halfway, with
Bourdelais and Weldy still right on his tail. Chuck Dehney took the
crossed flags fourth, with Tony Kawejsza inches behind in fifth. Steve
Johnson and Bob Crawford interrupted the caution-free run with a wreck
on lap 16, ending the night for both drivers.
Kephart survived a couple of restarts and was about a mile away from
victory when he lost the lead to Bourdelais, who in turn lost it to
Chuck Dehney a lap later when he had trouble. Dehney was good from
there, leading them to the checkers to score the win. Ron Bolduc,
Kawejsza, Weldy and Sandy Lee finished up the top five.
The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Models followed Daryl
Stampfl to the start, but Jimmy Renfrew quickly moved by on the outside
to put the David and Annette Joyce entry to the front. Veteran Bobby
Gahan was quickly up for second, and he glued himself to the leader’s
bumper.
As the laps wore on, Eric Hudson moved in to challenge Gahan for second,
and J.R. Baril joined the fray as well, but Renfrew was on a mission.
The lead quartet circled the high banks nose to tail for the final ten
laps, with Renfrew holding on to pick up the win. Gahan, Hudson, Baril
and George Baldwin finished second through fifth.
The All-Star Modifieds closed out the night’s action, with Henry Stampfl
and Dan Douville in the front row for the feature. A first lap incident
brought out a red flag after Matt Riley collided with a spinning Luke
Royea, who was attended to by the track safety crew.
When racing resumed, polesitter Stampfl lost the race lead to Douville,
who motored away from the field for the next several laps. Joe Lemay
broke out of the pack next, and he quickly ran down the leader to
challenge. Douville held off Lemay well past halfway, but he couldn’t
hold on to the finish.
After trying high and low for several laps, Lemay eventually worked his
way past and went on to collect his second checkered flag of the season.
Douville took runner-up honors, and Rusty Ball finished third followed
by Bobby Gahan, Carl Pasteryak, and Stampfl.

Race Report for
8-11-2007 Posted
August 13, 2007 at 9:55PM Epping, NH – The Super Late Models took center stage on
Saturday night with the running of the Allstate 100 special event. Jimmy
Rosenfield and J.R. Baril grabbed the wins in the twin qualifying races,
but the top 10 cars were inverted for the start of the main
event.
Jimmy Renfrew and Sparky MacIver led the field around to the
green in the twin David and Annette Joyce team cars, with Renfrew holding
the advantage and taking the lead. Dan Bezanson immediately challenged
MacIver, but the pair tangled coming off turn four.
Both cars shot
up the track and slammed the wall head-on, and the two drivers were
transported to the hospital to be checked out. When racing resumed,
Renfrew set the pace once again, but Jimmy Chambers and Zig Geno crashed
hard in the turn three wall, bringing red on the field once
again.
Joey Porciello picked up the lead after the ensuing cleanup,
and he went the distance to pick up the win, holding off a late-race
challenge from Wayne Helliwell, Sr. to pick up the victory. Wayne
Helliwell, Jr. was next across the stripe, followed by veterans Jeff
Crowley and Bobby Gahan.
The HLR Trucking Mini Stocks took part in
the night’s action, with Ricky Porter outgunning Billy Osborne to pick up
the win. Lloyd Chapin, Ashley Rousseau and Mike O’Connor were the rest of
the top five.
The Strictly Stocks followed Mike Asselin and Chris
Waites around to take the green from chief flagman Mike Walker, and it was
Asselin moving out to grab the early lead. Three laps in, Dennis Dumas
moved up to second, and he immediately began to pressure Asselin for the
lead.
Dumas ducked to the low side coming off turn two to take over
the lead on lap seven, with Rick Woodside, Jr. and “Rocket Rob” MacRae
moving up to run right on his back bumper by halfway. MacRae took care of
Woodside on lap 12 to get to second.
“Double D” hung on to the top
spot for as long as he could, but MacRae knocked him back to runner-up and
eventually went on to pick up the win. Defending champ Russ Douphinette
came across the line third, with Woodside and Ken McIlvaine finishing up
the top five.
The Roadrunner feature saw a series of lead changes
in the early laps, with Chris Kingsley, Aaron Day, and Steve Nichols all
taking a turn out front before Billy Osborne took control. Osborne was on
a mission from there, outrunning the field to pick up the win.
Kingsley had his best run of the year to come home with second
place honors, followed by Ray Patriacca, Kurt Smith, and Pat
D’Alba.
Brandee Tree led the All-Star Modifieds to green, but an
early tangle sent her to the back of the pack and Marty Radewick got a
ride back to the pits with the help of a couple of wreckers when the dust
settled
Eric LeClair grabbed the lead on the restart, but Bruce
Batchelder wasted little time finding a way past to set the pace. By
halfway, Joe Lemay moved into the second spot, but he spun on lap 20,
ending his chances of victory.
Rusty Ball took over second when
Lemay dropped by the wayside, but he couldn’t mount a serious challenge
for the lead. Batchelder led them across the strip to score his second win
of the year, with Ball, Henry Stampfl, Bobby MacArthur, and Archie
Archambeault the rest of the top five.
Steve Johnson jumped out to
take the lead when the Super Street feature took the green flag, and he
held off a series of challenges to maintain the point halfway through the
30-lap affair. Bob Crawford was having a strong run in the second spot at
the crossed flags, with multi-time champ Ron Bolduc third and headed to
the front.
Johnson looked to be in pretty good shape heading to the
finish, but multi-time champion Bolduc eventually pulled alongside to
challenge with the laps winding down, and he drove around on the outside
to pick up the win. Chuck Dehney, Tony Kawejsza, and Lee Weldy were the
rest of the top five.

Epping, NH – The New Hampshire Mini Cups were the added attraction at
the All-Star Speedway on Saturday night, and they led off the night’s
feature event action. Bret Culleton and Bobby Prior put on a great show
in the early going, battling door-to-door for the lead.
The pair reached the halfway point still fighting hard for the top spot,
which Prior eventually got. Once out front, Prior pulled away to hold a
couple of car lengths lead until the checkers. It was Prior’s first
visit to All-Star victory lane, with Franky Perry up late to take
runner-up honors over Culleton.
The Roadrunners were the first weekly division to hit the high banks,
with Chris Kingsley and Aaron Day leading them to green. Kingsley got
the jump and grabbed the early lead, while the rest of the field battled
for position behind him.
Cory Sullivan gave chase in the first half of the race, with Ray
Patriacca joining in to make it a three-way battle at the crossed flags.
Patriacca quickly got past Sullivan for second, and Kingsley fell soon
after to put Ray Pat out front for good.
At the checkers, it was Patriacca in for his second win of the year,
with Billy Osborne, Shaun Waites, Kurt Smith and Sullivan rounding out
the top five finishers.
Strictly Stock action was up next, and it was Chris Waites moving out
from the pole to grab the lead for the first three laps. Rick Woodside,
Jr. took over at that point, with Steve “Pinball” Wilmot right behind.
Russ Douphinette was third and headed to the front, picking his way past
both Waites and Woodside to take command. Once out front, there was no
stopping the Douphinette express, whose next stop was victory lane.
Dennis Dumas caught up with the defending champ with a couple of laps
remaining, but he was forced to settle for a runner-up finish this time
out. Ricky Porter wound up third, with Woodside and Matt Kawejsza next
across the stripe.
Daryl Stampfl and Eric Hudson led the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
Super Late Models around to the start of their feature event, and the
pair battled it out for four laps before Hudson gained the advantage and
pulled ahead into the lead.
At the ten-lap mark, it was Hudson and Stampfl still setting the pace,
with a trio of veterans, Wayne Helliwell, Sr., Bobby Gahan and Rich
Eaton right on their tail. Gahan quickly moved up to second, after that,
but he couldn’t mount a serious challenge to Hudson’s lead.
A series of cautions slowed the race in the late going, but there was no
stopping Hudson on his way to the winner’s circle with the Newmarket
Sand and Gravel machine. Gahan held on for runner-up honors, with
Helliwell, J.R. Baril and Jimmy Renfrew closing out the top five.
The thunder of the All-Star Modifieds chased polesitter Brandee Tree for
the first two laps of their feature event, with Kenny White, Jr. taking
over from there. White was in his first outing with a brand new car, and
he immediately hooked it up and pulled away from the field.
While White was clicking off some impressive laps out front, Bruce
Batchelder steadily made his way through the rest of the field to grab
second. But the laps ran out before he could catch the leader, with
White going the distance to score the win. Batchelder, Jim Boniface, Joe
Lemay and Rusty Ball finished third through fifth.
The Super Streets closed out the night with a wild feature event that
saw several cars damaged in a lap two incident that brought red flag
conditions on the track. Paul Ranberg spun while running second, and the
rest of the field piled in hard.
The track was blocked momentarily, although several cars re-fired and
continued along. Tony Kawejsza lost a radiator in the melee, but the
lengthy cleanup gave him time to make repairs and return to action.
Defending champ Ron Bolduc was involved, but he pitted and returned as
well.
Rookie Steve Johnson led early, with Scott Bonney taking a turn out
front after him. Bonney lost out to John Bourdelais, who in turn lost to
George Baldwin, who went on to post his first Super Street win of the
year. Sandy Lee, a resurgent Bolduc, Sparky MacIver and Wayne Whitten
finished up the top five.

Epping, NH – Another full night of racing was on tap at the All-Star
Speedway on Saturday night, and despite threatening weather all over the
area, the rains stayed away and the fans were treated to some wild
action all night long.
The Thunder of the All-Star Modifieds filled the air twice during the
night, as the Mods ran twin feature events for the evening. Another
strong field filled the pits, with 16 cars taking the green for main
event action.
Former 350 Supermodified champion Jon McKennedy made his presence known
early on, as he stormed to victory in the first of the two feature
races. Kenny White, Jr. held the early lead, but McKennedy was out front
by halfway, and he was there to stay.
At the checkers, it was McKennedy picking up the win, with Bruce
Batchelder hot on his heels in the second spot, holding off Andy Seuss
and Rusty Ball to collect runner-up honors.
McKennedy went after the daily double in the nightcap, but he came up
just short. Tom Abele, Jr. set the pace for the first few circuits, with
White taking over to once again set the pace on lap eight. This time
White remained out front well past the halfway mark, with Todd Patnode
moving in quickly.
White held Patnode at bay until a lap 22 restart, when Todd took the
high line around White to the lead. Debuting a brand new car, Patnode
made the best of it with his first win of the season, followed by White,
McKennedy, and Abele.
The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Models picked up a
couple more entries last week, with veteran Bobby Cabral, Donnie Lashua
and Wayne Helliwell, Jr. among the new faces at the drivers’ meeting.
Coming off his strong showing in the triple 50’s the previous week, J.R
Baril showed them the fast way around once again, hustling to his second
win of the season. Helliwell, Jr. checkered second, with Rich Eaton,
Sparky MacIver and Dan Bezanson the rest of the top five.
The Super Streets had plenty of action throughout the field, with Paul
Ranberg and Joey Ventrillo leading the way for the first half of the
race. Ron Bolduc was up to third at the crossed flags, and he was headed
to the front.
Bolduc made his way to the lead, but mechanical woes dropped him off the
pace with victory in sight. Sandy Lee took advantage of Bolduc’s demise
to take over the lead, and he held it until the checkers to score the
win. Chris Sullivan had his best run of the year to pick up second, with
Scott Bonney, Ranberg and Tony Kawejsza next across the stripe.
Russ Douphinette return to his winning form in the Strictly Stock
feature, breaking a run of tough luck with an impressive drive to the
win. Douphinette’s nephew Steve joined him up front by the crossed
flags, and the pair stayed out front the rest of the way.
Rob MacRae tried to join the lead battle, but the blue cars were off to
decide it among themselves. In the end, it was Russ holding the winner’s
trophy, with Steve settling for runner-up. MacRae collected third place
honors, with Ken McIlvaine and Matt Kawejsza next across the line.
Aaron Day led at the drop of the green, but Billy Osborne was the man to
beat in the Roadrunner main. Day led the first four laps before yielding
to Steve Nichols, who remained at the point at halfway, with Chris
Kingsley and Osborne just behind.
Osborne quickly made his way to the front after that, slipping past
Nichols on lap 13 to take over the lead. At the checkers, it was Osborne
in for the win, followed by Shaun Waites, Nichols, Scott Bonney, Jr.,
and Ray Patriacca.
Ricky Porter made the lead pass seven laps into the Mini Stock feature
event on his way to victory, with Billy Osborne coming up in the late
laps to checker second. Kevin Lanctot, Jr. made a late-race pass to
score third ahead of Ashley Rousseau.
The Allison Legacy Series had a wreck-filled feature event that saw
several cars sidelined along the way, but Anthony Frissora avoided all
the trouble to pick up the win over Bobby Alberti, Louie DeChello, Jake
Vanada and Paul Tuthill.
In the V-6 Modifieds, it was Wayne Brooks outrunning the field to pick
up his second win of the year over Dick Dubois, the runner-up on several
occasions this year. Allan Rieser checkered third, with Henry Sirignano
and Eric Vilandre rounding out the top five.

Epping, NH – The Super Late Models had another big night at the All-Star
Speedway, with three separate 50-lap feature events hitting the high
banks, and a Monza-style points system determining the winner based on
the finishes of all three races.
Veteran Babe Branscombe ran to the win in the first segment aboard the
Dennis Ciotti machine, shaking a string of tough luck that has followed
the team all season long. J.R. Baril finished second, with Joey
Porciello, Jimmy Renfrew, and Jimmy Rosenfield third through fifth.
In the second 50-lapper, Porciello found his way to front well before
the halfway mark, and he was there to stay. Rosenfield chased him across
the stripe to score the runner-up finish, with Eric Hudson, Renfrew and
Rich Eaton finishing up the top five.
The third and final segment saw an impressive charge by Baril to give
him the win, but a 15th place finish in the second race cost him a shot
at the overall win. Wayne Helliwell, Sr. checkered second in the
nightcap, with Bill Kimball, Porciello and Rosenfield next across.
When the final points were tallied, Joey Porciello picked up the overall
win, and the $4,000 payday that goes with it. Rosenfield was the only
other driver to crack the top five in all three races, making him the
overall runner-up.
It was a rough night in the Super Streets, with several cars knocked out
of action during a series of multi-car incidents. It all started after
Shane Gendron blew up to bring caution on the field at lap ten. Two laps
later, Scott Bonney bounced off the frontstretch wall to end his night,
and Tony Carroll found the fence on lap 14.
All the while, Rosebud Shea was setting the pace, showing them the fast
way around until well past the halfway mark. Chuck Dehney finally
slipped past for the lead on lap 21, and unfortunately, Shea got caught
up in a late-race tangle that dropped her to eighth at the finish.
At the checkers, it was Dehney in to collect his first win of the 2007
season, with multi-time champion Ron Bolduc chasing him across the
stripe in second. Kevin Kephart had his best run of the season for
third, followed by Chris Sullivan and Sandy Lee.
Kenny White jumped out to the lead when the All-Star Modifieds went
green, with Jim Boniface glued to his back bumper for the first 13 laps.
Brandee Tree brought out the caution with a spin at that point, and
Boniface made his move on the restart.
Halfway through, it was still Boniface and White out front, but Joe
Lemay was up to third and coming fast. He quickly disposed of White to
get second, and there was little Boniface could do keep him there for
long. Lemay moved past and went on to score the win, with Boniface,
Rusty Ball, Bruce Batchelder and White the rest of the top five.
Strictly Stock action rolled out of the pit area with Mike Asselin
sitting on the pole, but Ricky Porter quickly knocked him off the point
when the race went green. He moved out to put a couple of car lengths
between himself and the rest of the field, and he wanted it to stay that
way.
Porter had a strong run the rest of the way, leading every lap the rest
of the way to score his first feature event win of the season. Steve
Douphinette came up just short in the runner-up slot, followed by Steve
Wilmot, Rick Woodside, Jr., and Matt Kawejsza.
“Uncle Dana” Sullivan only lasted three laps in the Roadrunner main
before the guts of his engine were scattered all over the race track,
and the field was under caution while the track crew cleaned up the
mess. Aaron Day had set the pace at the start, but Loren Smith moved
past to take over on the restart.
Smith was leading Scott Bonney, Jr. and Billy Osborne at the crossed
flags, but Osborne was headed to the front. He quickly slipped past
Bonney for second, and then on lap 16, he got by Smith for the lead. At
the checkers, it was Osborne in for his fifth win of the year, with
Smith, Steve Nichols, Kurt Smith and Day the rest of the top five.

For immediate release
Epping, NH – Another huge field of racecars filled the pit area at the
All-Star Speedway on Saturday night, with the New Hampshire Mini Cups
joining the action once again to make it a six-in-one show for the fans
on hand for some action.
The Mini Cups were the first to hit the high banks, taking the green
flag from flagman Mike Walker to get the racing started. Franky Perry
slipped the up front starters to make his way out to the lead, but Bret
Culleton quickly made his move to take away the top spot from Perry.
The pair swapped the lead again later on in the race, with Perry going
on to pick up the win. Bobby Prior came on strong in the late laps to
checker second, with Culleton, John Roche and Travis Dunbar next across
the finish line.
Cory Sullivan assumed the lead when the Roadrunner feature went green,
but Chris Kingsley quickly moved to the outside to challenge him for the
top spot. Kingsley made the outside groove work, taking over the lead
until lap nine, when he got spun out of contention.
Ray Patriacca joined Kingsley at the rear for the restart, with Scott
Bonney, Jr. picking up the lead when racing resumed. The big guns were
coming in a hurry, with Billy Osborne and Shaun Waites up to challenge
at halfway.
While the two battled between themselves for second, Bonney continued to
cruise along a couple of car lengths ahead in the lead. At the checkers,
it was 2006 Rookie of the Year Bonney in for his second win of the year,
with Waites, Osborne, Sullivan and Patriacca the rest of the top five.
Strictly Stock action was up next, with Ken McIlvaine and Steve Wilmot
up front for the start. The pair raced side by side for the first lap
and a half, but contact sent them both spinning and brought the field
under caution.
Rick Woodside, Jr. picked up the lead on the restart, with Stephen
Dubois following him up the inside to challenge for the lead. Dubois was
still shadowing Woodside at halfway, with Matt Kawejsza, “Rocket Rob”
MacRae, and Mike Asselin filling out the top five at the crossed flags.
A lap later, Kawejsza’s night ended when he lost a right rear wheel and
was forced to retire for the night, moving MacRae up to third for the
restart. The Rocket quickly took over the lead, and went on to pick up
the win. Dubois moved up with time running out to finish second, with
Woodside, Rob Wilcox and McIlvaine closing out the top five.
Rookie Brandee Tree and veteran Bruce Batchelder sat in the front row
for the All-Star Modified main, and it was Batchelder out quickly to
grab the lead. Luke Royea was up from sixth on the grid to run second by
halfway, with first-timer Joe Lemay, Jim Boniface and Rusty Ball next in
the running order.
Lemay worked his way past Royea for second, and he was closing fast on
leader Batchelder as the five to go was shown to the field. Lemay dug
deep and pulled to the outside coming to the checkers, but Batchelder
held on to win by inches. Royea got third, with Boniface and Carl
Pasteryak next across the stripe.
The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Models put on a great
show; with Aric Blanchette getting the jump on polesitter Mike Murphy to
take the early lead. Zig Geno slipped past Murphy on lap five to take
over second, and he was right on Blanchette’s back bumper by halfway.
Shortly thereafter, Bobby Gahan moved in to join the lead battle, with
Blanchette continuing to set the pace. Gahan got past Geno for second,
but there was nothing he could do to stop Blanchette, who went on to
score his first career win. Gahan, Geno, Matt Frahm and Wayne Helliwell,
Sr. closed out the top five.
The Super Streets closed out the night with another action-packed
feature event, with Rosebud Shea once again taking the early lead. After
six laps out front, Steve Johnson brought caution on the field when he
suffered front suspension failure, sending him to the pits for the
night.
Shea’s luck turned bad on the restart, as she went spinning on the
backstretch to put the field right back under caution. Tony Kawejsza
joined Carroll up front when things sorted out, and he took the high
groove past Carroll to the front.
Scott Bonney soon joined the battle up front, putting heavy pressure on
Carroll for second. With the white flag flying, Bonney looked to
complete the pass, and at the checkers, he was runner-up to his teammate
Kawejsza. Carroll, Chuck Dehney and Ron Bolduc were next across the
stripe.
Next week, on Saturday, July 21, the Super Late Models will run a
special event featuring three 50-lap main events and a chance to win
$14,000, along with a full program of Super Streets, All-Star Modifieds,
Strictly Stocks, Roadrunners, Mini Stocks, V-6 Modifieds and Senior Tour
racing.

For immediate release
Epping, NH – With threatening skies all around the area, and despite a
couple of showers that passes over the speedway, track official at
All-Star Speedway did a fine job getting the show in last Saturday
night, with several first-time winners making the trip to victory lane.
During the program, there was a moment of silence for the victims of the
recent killings in North Conway, one of which touched close to home in
the All-Star pit area. Best friends Bill and Gary Jones were tragically
among those killed in the senseless attack, Jones’ father is a longtime
supporter of Modified racer Henry Stampfl.
The Independent Wheel V-6 Modifieds started out the night’s action, with
Wayne Brooks, Jr. and Eric Vilandre leading the field around to take the
green from flagman Mike Walker. Third starter Allan Rieser moved quickly
past the pair to take over the lead at the start.
Rieser pulled away from the field to what looked like a comfortable
lead, but when Jim Darlington broke out of the pack, things changed
quickly. Darlington reeled in Rieser, and slipped past to take his turn
out front.
Darlington virtually cruised the rest of the way, taking his first win
of the year by a comfortable margin at the checkers. Rieser held on for
second, with J.R. Gorman, Dick Dubois and Brooks the balance of the top
five finishers.
The Roadrunners rolled out of staging next, with Chris Kingsley and
“Uncle Dana” Sullivan bringing them around to take the green. Kingsley
immediately moved out to the lead, and he stayed out front setting the
pace for the first six laps.
At that point, ninth starter Shaun Waites completed his march to the
front, ducking underneath Kingsley on the backstretch to take over the
point. Waites went on to pick up the win, followed by Chris Jacobson,
Steve Nichols, Cory Sullivan and Ray Patriacca.
Rosebud Shea jumped out to the lead when the 20-car Super Street field
took the green, and she led the way as the challengers made their way to
the front. Tony Kawejsza was the first to get to Shea, and when he
looked to the outside, the pair got together and bounded off the
frontstretch wall.
The rest of the field somehow managed to make their way by the scramble,
with Sandy Lee lining up on the pole for the restart. Shane Gendron got
a great run in the high groove, making his way past Lee to the lead when
the action resumed.
Once out front, Gendron had his hands full with a bunch of veteran
drivers hot on his heels, but he held on to score his first-career Super
Street win. Lee, Lee Weldy, Scott Bonney and John Bourdelais were next
in the final rundown.
Kenny White, Jr. grabbed the lead at the start of the All-Star Modified
main, but he was quickly overtaken by Dan Douville, with two-time winner
Henry Stampfl following him to the front. Bruce Batchelder and Rusty
Ball soon joined the lead battle, and the race was on.
One by one, each of the others took a shot at Douville, but nobody could
knock him off the point. At the checkers, Douville added his name to the
growing list of Modified winners, with Ball, Stampfl, Batchelder and
Luke Royea the rest of the top five.
A strong field of 19 Super Late Models was signed into the pit area for
NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Model action, with Rich
Eaton moving out to take the early lead when the main event went green.
Aric Blanchette and Zig Geno chased Eaton early, but Scott Watts slipped
past both to put in his bid for the lead. Watts tried the outside with
little success, and then he got freight-trained back into the pack when
the big guns jumped into the lead battle.
Wayne Helliwell, Sr. was next to challenge Eaton, and after several laps
of looking, he finally found his way by on lap 23 to take over the top
spot. From there, Helliwell was in command, leading the rest of the way
to score his first win of the 2007 season. Bobby Gahan was up late for
second, with Eaton, Babe Branscombe and Jeff Crowley next across the
stripe.
The Strictly Stocks closed out the night’s action, with Chris Lee
leading the way the first time around. Steve Douphinette took over on
lap two, with Ricky Porter next up to challenge for the lead. At
halfway, it was Douphinette, and Porter still out front, with Russ
Douphinette, Rob MacRae and Stephen Dubois next in line.
Lost of positions changed in the late laps, but not the lead, which
Steve Douphinette held the rest of the way to score the win. MacRae
checkered second, with Russ Douphinette, Porter and Rob Wilcox
completing the top five.

- Epping, NH – The Pro All Stars Series North rolled into town for their
$5,000 to win 200-lapper on Saturday night, and a full field of Super
Late Models jammed the All-Star Speedway pit area for the event. Among
the entries was none other than Nextel Cup star Kyle Busch, who signed
autographs for his fans on both Friday and Saturday nights.
Busch went on to put on a heck of a show in the 200-lap main event,
however, a two-lap penalty cost him the win and put him sixteenth
instead. Veteran Mike Rowe was declared the winner, with his son Ben
scoring second. Travis Benjamin, Trevor Sanborn and Richie Dearborn were
the rest of the top five.
Earlier in the night, the V-6 Modifieds opened up the night’s feature
action with another entertaining race-long multi-car battle for the win.
Julian Gorman nailed down his first win of the year in that one, with
Dick Dubois, Wayne Brooks, Jr., Eric Vilandre and Allan Rieser the rest
of the top five.
The Roadrunners were next up, with 2006 Rookie of the Year Scott Bonney,
Jr. outrunning the field to pick up his first career checkered flag.
Bonney outran veteran Steve Nichols to get the victory, with multi-time
winner Billy Osborne scoring third over Aaron Day and Cory Sullivan.
The Strictly Stocks had a first-time winner as well, with Dennis Dumas
doing a great job to make his first-ever trip to Strictly Stock victory
lane. Dumas had to withstand a tough challenge from Steve Douphinette
and Matt Kawejsza, who were all over him for the last ten laps.
But Dumas held on to capture the win; with Kawejsza backing up his
recent win with another strong run to finish second ahead of
Douphinette. Rob MacRae came up in the late laps to finish fourth, and
defending champ Russ Douphinette rounded out the top five.
Some heavy hitters were on hand for the Modified portion of the program,
and nobody hit heavier than Louie Mechalides did in the Marco Turcotte
machine. Brandee Tree led a few laps before losing out to veteran Rusty
Ball, but Mechalides was on the move.
After starting ninth on the grid, Mechalides worked his way to the
front, and quickly disposed of Ball to take over up front. Jon McKennedy
was not far behind, and he followed Mechalides from tenth at the start
to run second.
Mechalides was up to the task however, holding off McKennedy’ challenge
to pick up the win. McKennedy had to settle for the runner-up finish,
with Bruce Batchelder, Henry Stampfl and Dan Douville next across the
stripe.
Gary Modugno led a strong field of Super Streets to the green flag, and
he moved out to grab the lead while the rest of the field sorted things
out behind him. Outside front row starter John Bourdelais soon did the
same, taking over second in the early going.
Halfway through the 50-lap affair, multi-time champion Ron “Bulldozer”
Bolduc joined the fray, but the best he could do was get past Bourdelais
for second. At the checkers, it was Modugno in to score his second win
of the 2007 season, with Bolduc, Bourdelais, Scott Bonney, Sr. and Sandy
Lee next in the finishing order.

- Epping, NH – In the final tune-up before next weekend’s big Pro All
Stars Series 200-lap Super Late Model event, All-Star Speedway, the
Super Lates ran double features last Saturday night, with the biggest
field of the year swelling the pit area to overflowing.
The first half of the twin 35-lappers went green to start out the
night’s feature race action, and there was plenty of it to go around.
Wayne Helliwell, Sr. and Jimmy Renfrew made it a two-car breakaway in
the early laps, with Renfrew setting pace when they reached halfway.
A series of cautions in the last ten laps slowed the pace of the race,
and after a couple of minor incidents, George Baldwin turned the wild
factor up a notch or two. With the field roaring off turn two after a
restart, a spin up front gathered up several cars.
Baldwin climbed up and over the Eric Hudson machine, flipping hard
before he came to rest on all fours. Baldwin climbed from the wreck
uninjured, but the same can’t be said for his car, which was heavily
damaged.
On the restart, Renfrew picked up the lead once again, and he went the
distance in the Dave and Annette Joyce-owned entry to pick up the win.
Wayne Helliwell, Sr. checkered second, with Eric Hudson, Bobby Gahan and
Dave Bitondo the rest of the top five.
In the nightcap, it was the veteran Gahan getting the job done, holding
off a determined Renfrew to pick up the win by less than a car length.
Renfrew posted a second place finish, with Helliwell, Hudson and Aric
Blanchette rounding out the top five.
The Allison Legacy Series North was on hand for their second appearance
of the season, and for the second straight race, it ended with an
incredible photo finish for the win. Paul Tuthill, who won that last
race, broke out to the early lead over Kristy Chaves when the feature
went green, but he wasn’t out front for long.
An early restart was just what the doctor ordered for Jake Vanada, who
ducked beneath the two leaders to claim the top spot when racing
resumed. He set a quick pace out front, but Tayla Orleans quickly moved
in to challenge.
Orleans followed in his tire tracks the rest of the way, and on the last
lap, she ducked to inside and beat Vanada to the checkers by inches to
score the win. Tuthill finished third, with Louie DeChello and Anthony
Frissora next across the stripe.
Stephen Dubois jumped out to the lead when the Strictly Stock feature
took the green from flagman Mike Walker, with Ken McIlvaine and Rick
Woodside, Jr. in pursuit. Woodside quickly took care of business with
McIlvaine to take over second on lap nine, with Dubois continuing to set
the pace.
At halfway, it was still Dubois and Woodside up front leading the way,
Steve Douphinette and Russ Douphinette right behind. Coming off his
first career win on Wednesday, Matt Kawejsza wrapped up the top five at
the crossed flags.
Steve Douphinette spun out of contention late in the race, but Russ went
on to lead the field across the stripe to score the win. Dubois picked
up a solid runner-up finish, with Woodside, Kawejsza and McIlvaine next
in the final rundown.
The All-Star Modifieds chased Brandee Tree for the first three laps of
their main event, with veteran Rusty Ball taking over from there. Karl
Fredrickson followed Ball to the front, and he immediately started to
pressure for the lead.
Coming to the crossed flags, Fredrickson made his move and took over the
top spot, with Ball, Dan Douville, Henry Stampfl and Tree filling out
the top five. Fredrickson held on through a couple of late-race restarts
to pick up his first win of the year, with Ball, Jim Boniface, Douville
and Stampfl next across.
Super Street action saw Joey Ventrillo jump out to the early lead in the
feature event, with Shane Gendron sliding into the second spot. Seventh
starter Ron Bolduc headed to the outside early, and when the caution
flew on lap six for a spin by Dennis O’Brien; Bolduc was already up to
second.
And he wasn’t done by any means, as the multi-time champion kept it on
the outside and drove past Ventrillo to take command of the race. With
clear racetrack in front of him, Bolduc had smooth sailing the rest of
the way to the checkers, picking up the win.
Bolduc emerged from his car in victory lane showing off a picture of his
new baby daughter, who took the green flag earlier in the week. Gendron
had a strong run to finish runner-up to Bolduc, with John Bourdelais,
Lee Weldy and Chuck Dehney the rest of the top five.
“Uncle Dana” Sullivan led the Roadrunners around to take the green, but
Aaron Day quickly worked past to take over the early lead. Steve Nichols
and Scott Bonney, Jr. followed Day to the front, and on lap seven, they
both dropped to the low side and slipped past.
Billy Osborne was the man on the move, coming up from ninth on the
starting grid, and he broke past everyone to take over the lead. At the
checkers, it was Osborne in for the win, with Bonney, Shaun Waites,
Nichols and Ray Patriacca the rest of the top five.

Race Report for
6-16-2007
Posted June 19,
2007 at 9:06AM -
Epping, NH – After a couple of weeks off due to bad weather, things
kicked right back into high gear at the all-new All-Star Speedway on
Saturday night, with the fields of entries growing even larger this week
in all divisions.
The Super Streets opened up the night’s action with the first of two
feature events for the night, and it was a dandy right from the start.
Rookie Bob Crawford moved out to the early lead, but he was quickly
replaced by fellow first year Super Streeter Steve Johnson.
Johnson stayed on the point until lap seven, when Sandy Lee made his
move to the front in one of the four Jim Daley entries, and the rest of
the team soon joined him at the front of the pack. By halfway, Scott
Bonney had moved up to second, with Lee Weldy and Tony Kawejsza next in
line.
Opening night winner Gary Modugno cracked the top five in the late laps,
but he couldn’t muscle in on Team Daley’s perfect night, as Sandy went
on to grab his first win of the year. Bonney held on for second, with
Weldy, Kawejsza and Modugno the rest of the top five.
The Independent Wheel sponsored V-6 Modifieds were next on the agenda,
starting out the regularly scheduled feature action with rookie Wayne
Brooks, Jr. sitting on the pole for the main.
Brooks got a good jump on the start to pull down the early lead, as the
biggest field of the year sorted out behind. Veteran Dick Dubois was up
quickly to challenge for the lead, with Allan Rieser soon joining in to
make it a three-way battle for the lead.
With the two veterans right on his bumper, Brooks held his line and kept
them both at b |
