Epping, NH –
All-Star Speedway brought down the curtain on the 2008
racing season with running of the annual Halloween
Howler on Saturday night.
A full house was on hand
despite the chilly temperatures, and the fans were
treated to a great night of racing. The
Roadrunners started out the night’s action with a fast
and furious 30-lap feature event, with Loren Smith, Jr.
busting out of the pack to lead the first six laps.
Timmy Johnson took over
from there, and he went the distance to post the win. Mike Williams
outran polesitter Jason Ferreira to grab the lead when
the Strictly Stocks went green, and Rick Woodside, Jr.
quickly joined the battle, making at t three-way fight
for the lead.
Ferreira moved to the
outside, and on lap 13, he took over the top spot. Ferreira
pulled away by several car lengths in the second half of
the race, with Williams and Woodside locked in a tough
battle for the second spot.
At the checkers, it was
Ferreira rolling into victory lane with his first career
Strictly Stock win. Loren Smith,
Jr. joined Ferreira as a first-time winner in the Fast-4
feature event, making his first trip to the winner’s
circle after an impressive run in the 30-lap feature
event.
Smith took command early in
the race, and he never looked back on the way to victory
lane. Keeping with
the theme of the night, Andy Holmes captured his
first-ever checkered flag in the Fast-8, slipping past a
last-lap incident to pick up the win.
Holmes led the first four
laps, but as the race wore on, he slipped back a couple
of spots. Heading into
turn three on the final lap, Travis Collins and Andy
Nichols tangled while running one-two, and with the
checkers in the air, Holmes maneuvered his way past the
scramble to score career win number one.
The Super
Streets were a late addition to the Howler schedule to
make up the rainout of their second feature during the
All-Star Nationals a week earlier.
The 50-lap main event for
the Super Streets went green with Rob DeAlmeida taking
the early lead. A lap eight
restart gave Nick Gravel a shot at the lead, and he took
it.
Gravel ran the high line
past DeAlmeida to take over the lead, and the race was
his to lose from there.
Lee Weldy challenged
briefly, but Ron Bolduc quickly knocked him back a spot. The former champ pressured the young
gun the rest of the way, but when the checkers came down
to end the Super Street season, it was Gravel taking
down the win in the season finale. The
traditional Howler specialty events filled out the
night’s program, with several familiar faces making
their way to the winner’s circle.
Bill Clement took home the
win in the flagpole race, Mark Parenteau grabbed the
one-on-one drags, Christin Burns was best in the ladies
enduro, and Matt Anderson scored in the 4-cylinders.
Mike
Stefanik of
Stefanik collected local favorite Jon McKennedy as he
fought for control, suffering a flat tire in the process
and heading to the pits.
McKennedy’s car suffered more serious damage, and
he was done for the night as a result.
When
the action resumed, Silk had his hands full with Jim
Storace and Matt Hirschman, who were going at it hard
for the second spot on the leader’s back bumper.
Stefanik meanwhile, was picking his way back
toward the front, and he didn’t stop until he got there.
With 66
laps showing on the board, Stefanik made his move past
Silk for the lead, and he never looked back.
When the checkers waved at the end of the
100-lapper, Stefanik found himself sitting in All-Star’s
victory lane for the second time this season.
Silk
collected runner-up honors for the night, with Hirschman
settling for third ahead of Kyle Ebersole, Rowan Pennick,
Storace, Josh Cantara, Jacob Dore, Henry Stampfl, and
George Baldwin.
In the
final round of the Water Snogo Big Block Super Series,
former multi-time track champion and Classic winner Russ
Wood stormed to victory aboard one of the four Jeff
Holbrook-owned machines in the field.
Seven
laps into the race, “Super Dave” Sanborn broke and oiled
down the track in turn one, sending the pack scattering,
but most of the cars involved in the incident were able
to rejoin the race.
Wood blasted past teammate Mike Ordway, Jr. on
the restart to take over the lead, and he was off to the
races.
Fresh
off clinching the ISMA championship at the Thompson, CT
Speedway the week before, “The Rowley Rocket” Chris
Perley got past Ordway in the late laps, but there was
nothing hw could do to stop the high-flying Wood.
At the
checkers, it was Wood taking down his first All-Star win
of the season, with Perley, Ordway, Jeff Abold,
Lane
backed up his fifth place run in the Big Block Super
Series with an equally impressive run in the 350 Supers,
where he led flag-to-flag to grab his first All-Star
checkered flag of the season.
Lane held a comfortable lead most of the way, but
Matt Seavey closed in late in the event to challenge.
Lane
was up to the task however, and he led them across the
stripe to score the win.
Seavey took a shot on the low side but came up a
car length short, with Seavey, David Duggan, Dave
Sanborn, and Tom Tombarello, Jr. closing out the top
five.
Joey
Doiron and Miles Chipman battled side-by-side for the
lead when the New England Late Model feature went green,
with Chipman eventually gaining the advantage and moving
into the lead on lap three.
Doiron
settled into second for the next several circuits, but
on lap 20, he put a move and Chipman to take over the
top spot.
Bryan Kruczek quickly joined the lead battle, making it
a three-way fight for the lead.
Chipman
eventually lost the second spot to Kruczek, who began
applying some intense pressure to leader Doiron in the
late stages of the race.
But Doiron held tough, taking the checkers with
Kruczek right on his bumper.
Geoff Rollins claimed the third spot, with Eddie
Seffen and Chipman next across the stripe.
The
Super Late Model main was cut short by rain, with Eric
Hudson taking the win in the Newmarket Sand and
Gravel-sponsored machine. Wayne Helliwell, Jr. picked up
second place honors, with Ben Rowe, Rick Martin, Larry
Gelinas, Rich Eaton, Barry Gray, Jeff Crowley, Mike
Rowe, and Steve Knowlton the rest of the top ten.
The
Super Streets only got in one of their two scheduled
50-lap features during nationals weekend, and it was
Sandy Lee taking down the win.
Former champ Ron Bolduc moved in late in the race
to challenge, but Lee held him off and scored the
victory.
Tim
Casey, Jr. put in a solid third place run, with Shaun
Waites, Lee Weldy, Wayne Whitten, Jr., Chris Lee, Rob
DeAlmeida, and Nick Gravel rounding out the top ten
finishers.
Big Dan
took his first career win in the Fast-8 feature event,
coming on strong in the late laps to pick up the win by
a fender over two-time winner Travis Collins.
Collins got past a spinning Andy Nichols for the
lead with three laps to go, but the race was far from
over.
Big Dan
quickly made his move, ducking underneath Collins to
take over with two to go.
Collins fought back on the outside, but his
challenge came up short.
Christin Burns chased the leaders across the line
in third, with Nichols and Brian DeStefano following.
Erik
Bibeault only led one lap in the Fast-4 feature, but it
was the one that counted.
Bibeault had a tough time on the start and had to
play catch up, but the extra-distance feature was just
what he needed to get the job done.
Jef
James broke out of the pack at the drop of the green and
remained on the point for the first 21 laps, when Scott
Fisette took over the point.
A lap 40 skirmish sent Fisette to the pits with a
flat, With Bibeault holding down the second spot until
the checkers were in the air.
When the leader broke with the
checkers in sight, the door opened for Bibeault, and he
moved past to score his first career win after nine year
of trying, with Matt Magee and James chasing him across
the stripe.
ALL-STAR NATIONALS TO BRING THE BEST TALENT TO NEW HAMPSHIRE
EPPING, NH - Quite possibly the largest gathering of auto
racing talent in the history of All-Star Speedway will
converge on the quarter-mile oval on the weekend of October
24 and 25, as the NASCAR Sanctioned Epping, New Hampshire
facility hosts the 2nd Annual “All-Star
Nationals” with a series of special events over this two-day
period.
Three headline division events will highlight the action,
with two of those three events deciding WaterSnoGo Series
Championships.
The
fourth and final WaterSnoGo All-Star Modified Showdown event
of 2008 will be 100 green-flag laps in length, paying $3,000
to the race winner. In addition, there will be a minimum of
$4,000 in lap money available to the race leaders of those
laps, which will be paid out the night of the race. To

Matt Hirschman, who heads into this weekend as the 2008 ROC
Champion, and just 35 points behind Ted Christopher for the
NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Title, will also do battle with
Christopher at All-Star in the WaterSnoGo event, as he hopes
to be securing his third series title of 2008. Others who
have already entered the series finale include nine-time
NASCAR Champion Mike Stefanik, Rob Summers, Ronnie Silk, Jon
McKennedy and 2008 NASCAR New Hampshire State Champion Louie
Mechalides.
Big-Block Supermodifieds have long been the most popular
form of racing at All-Star, and this final WaterSnoGo
All-Star Big-Block Supermodified Series event promises to be
the best of the four race series. It will again be 50 laps
in length, paying $2,500 to the winner. Jon McKennedy, Chris
Perley and Mike Ordway Sr., won the first three events, but
in this fourth event they will have to contend with Russ
Wood, who was at the track testing for this race just last
week. Mike Ordway Jr., also promises to be a contender for
the top prize, with other entries sure to follow.
The
Super Late Models have brought All-Star Speedway some very
competitive racing throughout the 2008 season, but their
Nationals race will be much more than that. It will be a
150-lap race paying a whopping $5,000 to the winner, and
that has gotten some of the biggest names in this popular
division on the list of entries.
Ben
Rowe heads that list, but 2007 winner Scott Chubbuck will
also be a contender. Russ Hersey, Travis Benjamin, Barry
Gray and Mike O’Sullivan are just a few of the entries
announcing their intentions to compete in this race.
The
New England Late Models will also appear, running with rules
based on the popular ACT Tour specs. They will have a 75-lap
event that will include the talents of J.R. Baril, Larry
Gelinas and Bryan Kruczak to name a few.
Other divisions competing in the 2nd Annual
All-Star Nationals will be the 350 Supermodifieds, the V-6
Modifieds, Fast Fours, Fast Eights, and a Championship
Double-Point weekend for the popular Super Streets.
Racing starts on Friday, October 24 at 5:30 PM with
qualifying events and a 50-lap feature event for the Super

EPPING, NH- The third event of a four race series
known as the WaterSnoGo Big Block Supermodified Series takes
place at the All-Star Speedway this Saturday night, October
4 for a $2,500-to-win, 50-lap special event. The race has
been named the Red Brosnan Memorial 50, as longtime
Gloucester, Mass. Policeman, the late John “Red” Brosnan
will be honored as part of the festivities.
The race will renew a friendly rivalry that has
developed between ISMA Champion Chris Perley in his Vic
Miller entry against Jon McKennedy in the Dunigan Racing
Supermodified. Each has a victory in the WaterSnoGo Series
in 2008, and they proved to be the best of 33 entries in the
recent ISMA Classic at the quarter-mile, as they raced for
the lead over many laps in what ISMA called, “One of the
most exciting races in recent times.”
Many of the Gloucester, and sixteen additional
surrounding area Police Departments are planning to be
represented at this great event, which will honor Brosnan,
who served on the Police Department for 36 years before his
retirement. Prior to his service, Brosnan served in the U.S.
Navy as well. Brosnan was a classic figure in Gloucester,
well known for his sense of humor and wit.
This, the third of four WaterSnoGo Big Block
Supermodified events, in addition to the $2,500 winner’s
share, will serve as a tune-up for the All-Star Nationals
Series Finale on October 24 and 25. A full field of Big
Block Supermodifieds are expected for that season-ending
event.
One of the entries for this October 4 event will have
Russ Wood acting as crew member for former Small-Block
Supermodified driver Mike Caswell, who will pilot Wood’s car
on Saturday night. Caswell, who drives the team hauler, has
been given a chance to drive Wood’s car as a reward for his
efforts during the season.
With the All-Star Nationals just a few weeks away,
and the ISMA Tour off for the next two weekends, a larger
field of cars is expected for this event. Adding to the
program will be a full program of racing for the Super
Streets, Strickly Stocks, Fast Fours and Fast 8’s.
Admission for the October 4, WaterSnoGo Sponsored,
John “Red” Brosnan Memorial 50 event is $25 for adults, $20
for Seniors, with children 10 and under admitted free of
